We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities

Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organization that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally.

Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organizations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform, and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe.

Summary job description

The Regional Communications Senior Officer (East Africa) will work with the outreach and global communications teams to capture, document and share BV's conservation programme and learning through a range of outputs, including news stories, blog posts, content for social media, reports, documentary photography and materials for media consumption. This role provides a broad range of support to promote the effective communication of our programmes across our partnerships in East Africa. Reporting to the East Africa Regional Director with a dotted reporting line to Senior Communications Manager.

This role requires outstanding written communication, editing skills and the ability to adapt the message to a range of audiences. You will be motivated by telling the story of East Africa’s small-scale fishers through their own words and experiences, using digital channels, high-quality imagery and data visualisation tools to bring impact to life. You will work to showcase the efforts of BV’s partner organisations and the fisher communities they serve, while communicating the enabling role the organisation plays in catalysing community-led marine management across Africa.
