Located in an African savannah ecosystem, Mpala catalyzes and disseminates interdisciplinary and impactful research on the most pressing issues of our time, particularly those related to the environment, sustainability, and human development.

MSc. Student – Conservation Technology & Human-Wildlife Conflict

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Kenyan, Second-Year MSc. student to join an exciting conservation technology project tackling human-wildlife conflict in Laikipia expected to begin in August . This position will run for 6 months.

In this role, you will:

  • Monitor and help reduce conflict between people, elephants, and carnivores
  • Repair and maintain solar-powered speaker systems in the field
  • Train local communities on using conservation technology
  • Collect and analyze data on conflict events
  • Provide regular project updates to collaborators and funders Collaborate with international partners and publish scientific papers

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Currently pursuing an MSc degree in conservation, ecology, social science, or related field
  • Familiar with local conservation issues and human-wildlife conflict
  • Has Technical aptitude (electronics or mechanical systems)
  • Capable of driving a motorcycle on challenging road networks
  • Strong communication skills (English, Kiswahili; local languages a plus)
  • Passion for working with rural communities and advancing conservation
