Location: Nairobi, KenyaDuration: 3 MonthsReports To: Program Associate
The OpportunityEAMDA is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Business Analyst Associate to support data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting across the organization's programmes and business functions.
The Business Analyst Associate will work closely with programme, research, and monitoring teams to transform data into actionable insights that support decision-making, learning, and impact measurement. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in data analytics within the agricultural development and market systems sector. The SPARK internship is designed to equip emerging professionals with hands-on exposure to real-world datasets, business intelligence tools, market research processes, and programme performance monitoring systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Management & Quality Assurance
  • Support the collection, cleaning, validation, and management of programme and research data.
  • Assist in maintaining databases and ensuring data quality, consistency, and integrity.
  • Support the organization and documentation of datasets and data management processes.
  • Contribute to data governance and data security practices in accordance with organizational standards.

Data Analysis & Insights
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Support market assessments, value chain analyses, and programme performance reviews.
  • Assist in conducting statistical analysis and interpreting findings for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the generation of evidence that informs programme design and implementation.

Dashboards & Data Visualization
  • Support the development and maintenance of dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Create charts, visualizations, and interactive reports that communicate programme performance and impact.
  • Assist in designing user-friendly data products for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the automation of recurring reports and analytical processes where feasible.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
  • Assist in tracking programme indicators and performance metrics.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities, including surveys, assessments, and learning reviews.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monitoring reports and learning briefs.

Research & Market Intelligence
  • Support data collection and analysis for agricultural market studies and sector research.
  • Assist in gathering and synthesizing market intelligence from various sources.
  • Support the development of analytical reports, presentations, and knowledge products.
  • Contribute to identifying emerging trends within agriculture, agribusiness, and market systems development.

Cross-Functional Support
  • Collaborate with programme teams to understand data needs and reporting requirements.
  • Support business development efforts through data analysis and evidence generation.
  • Participate in team meetings, learning sessions, and organizational knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Perform other data and analytics-related assignments as required.

QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree (completed or final year) in:
  • Statistics/Data Science/Mathematics/Business Analytics/ Actuarial Science
  • Economics/Agricultural Economics
  • Computer Science/Information Systems
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Or a related quantitative discipline

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python, R, SQL, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and dashboard development.
  • Understanding of statistical concepts and analytical techniques.
  • Experience working with datasets and performing quantitative analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of survey tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, or Google Forms is an added advantage.
  • Interest in agriculture, agribusiness, development programmes, or market systems development.

  • High level of accuracy in data handling, validation, and reporting.

  • Ability to present analytical findings clearly and effectively.

EligibilityApplicants should:
  • Be recent graduates (within the last three years).
  • Be available for the full three-month internship period.

Organizational Information
  • This is a three-month internship position based in Nairobi.
  • Hybrid working arrangements may apply depending on assignments.
  • Occasional travel within Kenya may be required for field-based data collection activities.
  • SPARK Associates will receive structured mentorship and professional development support.
  • A monthly internship stipend will be provided.
